Soyabean Manchurian

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Soyabean chunks
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (Maida)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 capsicum, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

For the sauce:

  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp cornflour
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1. Boil soyabean chunks in water for 5 minutes. Drain the water and keep aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the boiled soyabean chunks, cornflour, all-purpose flour, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp tomato ketchup, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well.
  3. Heat oil in a wok for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, drop the soyabean chunks and fry till they turn golden brown. Remove and keep aside.
  4. In a separate pan, heat oil and add chopped onions, capsicum, green chillies, ginger paste and garlic paste. Saute for a minute.
  5. Add soy sauce, tomato ketchup, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornflour with water and add it to the pan. Stir continuously and cook until the sauce thickens.
  7. Add the fried soyabean chunks to the sauce and mix well.
  8. Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot.
